Captains Dinner 2016
Snow does not put a dampener on Cuckfields Drive In!
Captains Drive In at Cuckfield Golf Centre is often an event challenged by the January weather. This year was no exception as no one was able to gauge where the new Captains had managed to land their drives as snow covered the course until mid-morning.!
In spite of the weather a good crowd had arrived to support the event. Well wrapped against a biting wind the 2015 Captains managed to Putt Out their year using the putting mat used for training. None of them managed to hole their ball in one putt even though Jim Blyth, the Men’s Captain was using a strange shaped ball designed to help sink a ball! The Club also says a big thank you to the other Captains, Judith Gallagher, (Ladies). Patrick George (Seniors) and Olly Dickman (Juniors). It has been a great year for Cuckfield with the Men winning the 9 Hole League, the Ladies having much success in their Division and Friendly Matches, the Seniors winning many of their battles against a good number of local clubs, and the juniors increasing in number and representing Cuckfield from time to time.
There was the usual good hearted banter as Lindi Galloway (Ladies), Roger Harris (Seniors), Tom Packham representing Charlie Rutter (Juniors) and last, but by no means least, Andy Holden (Men). Andy had his usual array of eye catching clothing ready to wear for the event but sense prevailed and warm winter clothing was the order of the day as he took to the makeshift tee overlooking the course using the smallest of the children’s range of drivers! Many thought he probably did as well with this as using his proper club! All managed respectable shots and were wished well in their forthcoming year by the club President, Chris Pointer.
A busy year is planned for Cuckfield Golf Centre with Division, League, Friendly and many other inter-club competitions already organised. A warm welcome always awaits visitors and the Captains will be pleased to help integrate newcomers.
This photograph shows the wonderful view from the clubhouse, whatever the weather!
